Inventory accuracy is fundamental to a distribution company. If you don't know what you have, you can't sell it reliably. This system replaces error-prone manual counting with a structured, QR-based process.
How It Works
QR-Based Location System
Every product location in the warehouse has a QR code. To count, an employee simply:
- Scans the location's QR code
- Enters the count for each product at that location
- Moves to the next location
No spreadsheets, no paper clipboards, no room for transcription errors.
Dual Independent Counts
The system requires two independent counts by different employees. Neither counter can see the other's results. This eliminates the most common source of inventory errors: a single person miscounting and nobody catching it.
Automated Discrepancy Resolution
When the two counts match, the inventory is confirmed automatically. When they don't, the system flags the location for a third count to resolve the discrepancy.
This three-count approach means:
- Simple agreement confirms accuracy
- Disagreements are caught and resolved systematically
- No manager needs to manually review every count
Design Principles
This project reflects a core operational belief: eliminate human error through system design, not through training or discipline.
The system doesn't ask employees to be more careful. It makes the careful path the only path available.
Impact
- Counting accuracy improved significantly
- Time per count cycle reduced by removing paper-based reconciliation
- Discrepancy resolution is systematic instead of ad-hoc
